I wanted to gain outside perspectives from successful leaders

Byron Dowdy

CEO, Milestone Development

“It’s inspiring and powerful to sit around the table with really smart people and hear everyone’s questions and strategies for dealing with issues.”

When Byron Dowdy first joined Peernacle’s CEO peer group, he was curious to gain outside perspectives from successful leaders.

Byron ran a successful business that owned and operated leading hotel franchises. But he faced challenges common to many family businesses…from family ownership structure and succession planning to navigating the need for creative financing alternatives to support continued growth.

Being a member of an intimate group of trusted leaders gave Byron a much-needed outside perspective from non-family members. The group shared valuable referrals for financing, commercial construction, and legal expertise that helped him navigate roadblocks and grow, both his business and as a leader.

We’ve had a diverse range of speakers on topics ranging from time management and employee engagement to executive presence and maximizing valuation. Those speakers opened my eyes to what I needed to change in my organization and what actions to take,” Byron said.

He also gained valuable leadership lessons from his peers that he could apply immediately.

Peernacle’s CEO peer group brings in expert speakers to most monthly meetings. Byron recalled how a recent speaker on health and longevity helped the members grow in ways beyond business and leadership. “As an entrepreneur, your time gets consumed by your business. Having peers who pushed each other on wellness and self-care was hugely impactful,” he said.

Byron recommends joining a CEO peer group.

It’s inspiring and powerful to sit around the table with really smart people and hear everyone’s questions and strategies for dealing with issues. Our businesses are different, but it’s surprising how common our issues are. You couldn’t possibly think of all the ideas and solutions on your own that you hear when you’re part of a group of people like this. Getting an outside perspective from other successful CEOs is incredibly beneficial to me.
